Published · 33s

A musical fidget toy answers a cricket note for note in the dark, playing Beethoven's Ode to Joy one push at a time. This is an echoPi video. echoPi is an EDC fidget slider and pocketable instrument: its clicks are real physical stops you can set up in the app, and every click can play a note. Turn the sound off and it becomes a quiet fidget for the office. echoPi is in development.

The cricket only sings in the dark. So Pi took the spotlight.

A cricket chirps somewhere in the dark living room, and Pi answers it note for note. Every time his flashlight finds it, it goes silent. So he builds it a stage: a matchbox, a red-napkin carpet, a bow. It hops up and sings, until the light snaps on and the star freezes. Pi turns the flashlight on himself, opens his mouth, and the cricket sings from the dark.

Music: Beethoven, Ode to Joy, Symphony No. 9 (1824, public domain), own arrangement.
