Pocket Knife Brands: 11 Makers Compared (2026)

Updated · echoPi Guides

No single pocket knife brand is best; they split by type. Benchmade, Spyderco and Chris Reeve lead enthusiast folders, Kershaw, Gerber and Case suit everyday carry, Victorinox and Opinel are European classics, and Civivi, WE and Kizer are value-focused.

How we put this together

Pocket knife brands differ less in quality than in what they're built to be: a Swiss multi-tool, a $23 French classic, an Oregon-made ultralight, a $59 flipper. This page covers eleven brands, grouped by type. Every location, model and price comes from the maker's own pages, opened on October 1, 2026.

We didn't rank anyone: a $23 Opinel and a $525 Sebenza don't compete for the same buyer. Brands whose official site wouldn't load for us that day, such as Buck, aren't included. For what to carry in the first place, see our EDC knife guide. Prices are the listed price on the maker's site, and sales move them, so treat every number as a snapshot.

Spyderco

Across its Everyday Carry collection, in-stock listings ran from $35 to $770, most between about $60 and $360.

Buy here if you want choice: few brands offer this many locks, blade shapes and steels at so many prices.

Chris Reeve Knives

Chris Reeve says each knife is "crafted with care in Boise, Idaho." The Sebenza 31 uses the Reeve Integral Lock with a ceramic ball interface and a MagnaCut or S45VN blade depending on availability. Newer value brands

Civivi

Civivi is a brand of WE Knife Co. Ltd., introduced in 2018 for "functional, utilitarian, EDC" knives at more affordable prices, and it calls WE "the largest Chinese manufacturer of quality cutlery" (Civivi). Buy here if you want premium steel and titanium without a US-maker premium.

Kizer

Kizer's About page doesn't give a headquarters; it says its R&D lab is 50 meters from its manufacturing line (Kizer). Drop Bear folders ran from $58.95 for the Drop Bear 2 to $199.95 for the Drop Bear Zero in titanium Damascus (collection). Kizer's FAQ lists a limited lifetime warranty for the original purchaser.

How to choose a brand

  • First knife, small budget: Opinel, Victorinox or Civivi.
  • Light everyday folder: Benchmade Bugout or Spyderco Delica 4.
  • Assisted flipper, no fuss: Kershaw.

  • Traditional pattern: Case or Opinel.
  • Premium steel and titanium for less: WE Knife or Kizer.

Knife carry laws vary by state and country, so check your local rules before you head out. Airlines are separate: TSA says knives aren't allowed in carry-on bags but are allowed in checked bags, wrapped or sheathed (TSA).

If your pocket also holds something to fidget with, echoPi, which is in development, is an EDC fidget slider with real, programmable clicks that can each play a note. You can hear the sounds in the play area.
